Doctor Warns of Possible Frontotemporal Dementia in Donald Trump

Doctor Warns of Possible Frontotemporal Dementia in Donald Trump

Viral text by Dr. Frank George claims symptoms of the current U.S. president do not match Alzheimer’s and points to political and institutional risk

247 – A physician identified as Dr. Frank George published a text that has been going viral on social media and on platforms such as Substack and LinkedIn, in which he claims that Donald Trump, the current president of the United States, shows signs consistent with dementia — but not of the Alzheimer’s type. The report was published by the news outlet Band News.

In the text, George argues that the Alzheimer’s hypothesis is being used generically and incorrectly to explain the president’s public behavior, when, according to him, there are elements more consistent with a specific type of neurological degeneration: frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

Right at the beginning, the doctor directly challenges the most widespread popular diagnosis and insists on what he describes as a far more serious and dangerous scenario:
“Damn it! It’s not Alzheimer’s! Here’s why this is a much bigger nightmare scenario.”

“You deserve facts, not conjecture,” says the author of the warning

Throughout the text, Dr. Frank George argues that the public is facing something that goes beyond aging or typical cognitive slips. He writes:
“You deserve facts, not conjecture. Alzheimer’s debilitates a person. Trump is not debilitated — he is worsening, and you need to know the frightening reason why.”

He then explains that, in his view, the signs displayed by Trump do not fit the classic pattern of Alzheimer’s disease, although they may appear similar to lay observers. According to the author, this confusion is common but dangerous:
“Here is the reality: Trump’s symptoms do not match those of Alzheimer’s disease. At first glance, some may seem compatible. Moreover, many people mistakenly confuse Alzheimer’s disease with dementia in general and lump all symptoms together. That is wrong. It is naïve. It is dangerous.”

Frontotemporal dementia and behavioral changes

The doctor states that the observable symptoms align more closely with frontotemporal dementia, which affects areas of the brain associated with social behavior, judgment, empathy, and foresight. George describes FTD as follows:
“Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) refers to a group of disorders caused by the progressive loss of nerve cells, primarily in the frontal lobes of the brain (the areas behind the forehead) and/or the temporal lobes (the regions behind the ears).”

According to him, precisely because it affects regions linked to behavior, the disease can manifest as visible personality changes, impulsivity, and loss of social filters — with direct consequences for the public life of a head of state.

Confabulation: false memories held with conviction

One of the elements Dr. Frank George identifies as central to his diagnostic hypothesis is confabulation, which he describes as the pathological production of false memories. As an example, he cites Trump’s insistence that he won the 2020 presidential election, which was won by Joe Biden, and claims that the president also insists on achievements that did not occur.

The doctor writes that Trump “confabulates with such conviction that it would register as ‘true’ on a lie detector.”

The text argues that this should not be interpreted as deliberate lying, but rather as the filling of mental gaps with invented memories that the individual genuinely believes:
“Trump does not lie: he fills gaps with invented memories that he believes.”

“Malignant narcissism” and the risk of political instability

In addition to the frontotemporal dementia hypothesis, Dr. Frank George also claims that Trump shows signs of another severe psychological condition, which he calls “malignant narcissism.” In this section, the author describes the combination as especially dangerous because it removes behavioral restraints and amplifies impulses for validation, control, and revenge.

In one of the most alarmist passages of the text, George writes:
“To watch Trump is to witness a malignant narcissist without the brain’s safeguards — judgment, restraint, empathy — and hungry for validation, control, and revenge, with an unrestrained finger on the ultimate button (the nuclear button, according to political commentator Robert Bernard Reich). This is what makes this moment so volatile and so dangerous.”

The central argument is that the risk would not be merely individual, but institutional and global, since the president controls decisions of extreme gravity, including military and nuclear matters.

References to previous warnings by mental health professionals

George also revisits earlier episodes in which mental health experts warned about risks related to Trump’s personality. He mentions the book The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, organized in 2017 by forensic psychiatrist Bandy Lee, with contributions from 27 specialists.

According to the doctor, the warning was not sensationalist:
“At the time, most people rolled their eyes. Today, the term ‘malignant narcissism’ (MN) appears everywhere: on cable news, in congressional hearings, even on late-night comedy shows. But what was not widely understood is how a dementia such as FTD alters an already disordered personality.”

He also cites the organization Duty to Warn, which represents thousands of mental health professionals and which, according to him, has reinforced similar warnings.

List of symptoms and signs cited by the doctor

In the final section of the text, Dr. Frank George lists signs that, according to him, would be observable and compatible with FTD. These include changes in gait and posture, socially inappropriate behavior, impulsivity, and loss of decorum.

He also suggests that Trump may show signs of possible Nonfluent Progressive Aphasia, pointing to examples of altered pronunciation and word substitutions, such as when the president reportedly says “United Shersh” instead of “United States,” or “cricious” instead of “Christmas.”

George further claims that Trump “loses his train of thought,” seeks applause, and treats everything around him as “the greatest in the world,” citing examples related to policies and military actions.

“It’s happening live,” the author concludes

Despite the alarmist tone, Dr. Frank George says he sees a “positive” aspect in the situation, in the sense that the symptoms are becoming evident to a growing number of people:
“As disturbing as the symptoms are, everyone is finally seeing it. It’s no longer theoretical. It’s happening live.”

By its nature and content, the publication broadens a long-standing and controversial debate about the ethical and political limits of publicly assessing the mental health of leaders, especially when such assessments are made without direct clinical examination. Even so, the text continues to circulate widely and has been used by critics as yet another element of pressure and contestation regarding the stability of the Trump administration and the risks associated with leading a nuclear power.
